Irish Times photographer Alan Betson has won the McNamee award for the best photograph on a GAA theme.
The picture is from last year's All-Ireland semi-final between Kerry and Derry when Betson captured the meticulously close attention now afforded to forwards in the modern game. Kerry's Dara Ó Cinnéide and Mike Frank Russell are denied any breathing space by Derry's Niall McCusker and Kevin McGuckin.
The awards originated after the McNamee report in 1971 and the nine category winners will be presented with their awards by GAA president Seán Kelly at a ceremony in the Burlington Hotel on May 21st.
Munster Council stalwart Fr Séamus Gardiner was inducted into the Hall of Fame. After 32 years' of service, Fr Gardiner stepped down from the Council at this year's Munster convention. A native of Borrisokane, Co Tipperary, Fr Gardiner acted as Munster PRO since 1978, while also serving a similar role on the national referees' committee.
The best article in a national newspaper went to Irish News journalist Paddy Heaney for his "Against the Breeze" column.
The best article in a provincial newspaper went to the Kingdom's Paul Brennan for his piece on the return of St Brendan's College, Killarney, to the Corn Uí Mhuiri final. An interview by Radio Kerry's Weeshie Fogarty with former Kerry footballer Tom Long won best local radio programme.
