SOCCER: Bohemians 1, UCD 0 CHRISTY FAGAN made a telling full return for Bohemians to give them a first home win in seven outings. Pat Fenlon's side hadn't won at Dalymount Park since beating Drogheda United in March.
That was Fagan’s last start in Phibsboro and he capped a fine display by forcing and scoring his side’s match-winning penalty.
UCD might have gone ahead after three minutes. Bohemians goalkeeper Chris O’Connor’s clearance fell to Dean Marshall who never got hold of his attempted chip which was cleared. There was another let-off for Bohemians on 19 minutes when Paul O’Conor chipped wide with only O’Connor to beat before Bohemians threatened minutes later. Robert Bayly would find Ger Barron on his game, though, as the UCD goalkeeper saved well with his feet.
But Barron was beaten on 25 minutes when Fagan scored from the spot after Michael Leahy handled his shot. UCD would have been disappointed not to have been level at half-time as Darren Meenan was twice off target.
Bohs’ Killian Brennan rattled the bar with a free-kick six minutes after the break and he forced the UCD goalkeeper to push another free-kick round a post on 64 minutes.
Ger O’Brien might then have added a second in the final minute, shooting just wide.
