Cool Dawn remained a warm outsider for the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup after he completed an Ascot hat-trick yesterday. He is an unchanged 25 to 1 chance for the big race after he successfully conceded two and a half stone to Orswell Lad.
Winner of the Betterware Cup on his last visit in December, he produced another front-running display to add the O K Soil Remediation Handicap Chase.
Go Ballistic, last year's Gold Cup fourth, matched strides with Cool Dawn for two miles as connections tried new tactics.
But jockey Tony McCoy was hard at work by the time he was unseated at the fourth last, his departure leaving Cool Dawn to clinch a two lengths victory.
Cool Dawn is now likely to line up in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton before trainer Robert Alner commits himself to a Gold Cup challenge.
