RUGBY/ MAGNERS LEAGUE Glasgow 30 Leinster 6:A VIRTUALLY second-string Leinster did well to hold Glasgow's try tally to three. But it might have been even smaller had Leinster not lost their grip on discipline which resulted in Welsh referee James Jones despatching no fewer than four players to the sin-bin, one before the break and three after, to give Glasgow an easy ride to victory.
It was a result that left Leinster coach Michael Cheika unhappy with the performance of referee Jones as Glasgow pulled away after leading 13-6 at the break.
“I was really disappointed with the officiating,” said Cheika. “We’ve got a young team out on the paddock that needs the game to be officiated the right way to stay in touch with a team as strong as this Glasgow side.
“So I’m a little disappointed for them because they put their heart and soul into it. That kind of stuff needs to be reviewed because it can affect the livelihood of a lot of young players,” he added.
Glasgow were also helped by the kicking of their Scotland outhalf Dan Parks who kicked 15 points in his final home game for the Warriors before he joins the Cardiff Blues next season.
After a slow start Glasgow stepped up the pace significantly to score their opening try after 22 minutes as fullback Bernard Stortoni touched down in the corner. Parks added the conversion.
Leinster then opened their account with a penalty by Ian Madigan from in front of the posts and three minutes later the fullback thumped the ball from a metre and half inside the Leinster half for a further three points. Parks hit back with two penalties before the break as Dominic Ryan was sin-binned.
Trevor Hogan, Rhys Ruddock, and Mike Ross saw yellow after the break and Glasgow pounced with two late tries from replacement wing Rob Dewey.
