Sligo's biggest crowd of the season gave a rousing reception to new manager, Jimmy Mullen, but it was Caulfield who stole the glory on a night when City emerged as genuine championship contenders.

Steve Berks gave Sligo a dream start when he headed home from Chris Twiddy's cross in the third minute. But from then on Cork dominated the exchanges with Patsy Freyne and Kelvin Flanagan dictating affairs at midfield.

It was Freyne who put the sides level in the 26th minute when he made the most of a dreadful blunder by Sligo keeper, Nicky Broujos, to slam home the equaliser.
