Castleknock College overwhelmed a brave Kilkenny College side on their way to a Leinster Schools senior cup quarter-final appointment with St Mary's yesterday. Ian Hopkins crossed the line in the corner for Castleknock's opening score and Dermot Grimes increased their advantage with a converted try.

The first half ended with the winners leading by 12-3 after Russell Armstrong converted a penalty for Kilkenny's only score.

Kilkenny, playing in the competition for the first time in 30 years, never gave up, but they made little progress against a much stronger opposition and failed to score in the second half.

Ten minutes after the restart, Robert Ward got the first of three Castleknock tries which were converted by outhalf John Davis.
