GOLF:MARK CALCAVECCHIA remained at the top of the Senior Open Championship leaderboard after carding a second-round 69 to move on to seven under par at Walton Heath in Surrey yesterday.

The American shared the lead overnight and picked up birdies on the first two holes. Four more birdies followed, but bogeys on the fifth, ninth and 16th meant he finished three under, enough to keep the 1989 Open champion in the lead.

Mark McNulty, who shared the overnight lead, double- bogeyed the 13th and then dropped three shots on the last for 76, leaving him on par.

Denis O’Sullivan shot a 74 to be three over on 147, while Eamonn Darcy was a shot back after a solid 72, right on the cut.
