Former Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy believes it's "very tough" on Waterford as they prepare to face the Rebels again in Sunday's All-Ireland hurling quarter-final.

The sides met last month in an epic Munster semi-final, which Waterford edged 5-15 to 3-18.

Barry Murphy said: "It is very tough on Waterford. Personally if I was involved I would hate to be meeting a team so soon that you have already played.

"That should be guarded against until you get to the final but of course, it's not always possible.

"It's tough on Waterford but Cork and Waterford games over the last seven or eight years have been unbelievable games - and Sunday should be really special."

Former Cork dual star Barry Murphy, who led the county to hurling All-Ireland glory in 1999 as manager, added: "Cork have a lot to play for but can they get one more big game? They've been on the road a long time and it's getting harder to reproduce the hunger to win All-Irelands.

"I think the Tipperary game is a factor because it showed up weaknesses in the Cork team that weren't there after the Waterford game . . . though they've had their injury worries."
