Abbeyleix won the Cullen Cup Mixed Foursomes in Baltinglass on Sunday when they beat New Ross in an exciting final. The adverse weather conditions caused play to be suspended for an hour, but the Co Laois club mastered the conditions better to win 3 and 1, with the last match called in on the 19th. Heroes for Abbeyleix were Frank Rowland and Barbra O'Donnell who, despite being four down after 12, fought back to level by the 16th. They won the 17th, but lost the 18th and went to the 19th where Rowland sank a 12-foot putt to give Abbeyleix victory.
