Sir, - Any educated person in Japan, hearing of Ireland, thinks of Yeats. We feel very close to Ireland, as we think of it as a land of spiritual values. When we travel there, we feel at home, so we were devastated to hear of the plan to demolish Yeats's house. We ask ourselves what has happened to this country we thought we knew, and feel lost. - Yours, etc.,
Fumiko Daido, Professor of English, Tama Art University, Tokyo, Japan.
