Sir, - When Tiger Woods won the US Masters in Augusta last Spring, it was hailed as a first - the first black person to grace the hallowed winner's enclosure and to wear the green jacket of Augusta. Georgia is in the heart of America's Deep South with a welldocumented history of racial oppression.
Woods is now hailed as a role model for youth, particularly black youth, representing that vast country in the recent Ryder Cup.
Tell me, when will women, who number about 51 per cent of the population, be allowed to become members, and represent, Portmarnock? - Yours, etc.,
