Sir, - I read with interest Father John Brady SJ's interesting suggestion (January 30th) concerning the completion of a car park on the site of the formerly proposed and now abandoned interpretative centre near Roundwood, suggesting that this would be capable of holding at least 200 cars and that this should be done without further delay. However, the decision of An Bord Pleanala of February 10th, 1995, clearly states that "permission is hereby refused for the retention of the partially completed visitor centre reception building, ancillary bus and car park", making any such development illegal.

He also suggested that in view of the well known security problem with cars experienced by walkers in the Wicklow Mountains that the car park would need to be supervised at a charge of £ per day to cover the cost of such supervision. Many of us who live in Wicklow have seen Glendalough where this practice is in operation. One result is that although some cars use the car park, many prefer to park free, as before, and continue to cause congestion on the road. - Yours, etc.,
