Sir, - While listening to the 9 pm news on RTE on October 24th, I noticed a report on the relaunching of the "Wear a White Ribbon for Peace" campaign. The reporter stated that the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, was launching this "re-launch" and that he himself was again wearing a white ribbon.
I for one (and probably thousands like me) never stopped wearing a white ribbon for peace and found it annoying, if not insulting, that (apart from the fact that he stopped wearing his) people like Mr Spring feel that he needs to relaunch a campaign that may have lost its impetus in his mind, but certainly has not in the minds of thousands of ordinary people - and particularly the people who suffer the direct consequences of a lack of progress in the whole "peace process" caused mainly by people in his position.
Perhaps it is time people such as Mr Spring realised that peace (and events associated with it) is something which is too fragile to be played around with when it suits. Yours, etc.,
(in peace studies)
