Sir, - In his article on men's suits (September 23rd), Robert O'Byrne observed that "our model Julian commented more than once how well he felt wearing such good clothes (he was visibly reluctant to part with several of the items)". Emphasising the feel good factor in Julian's petulant possessiveness is surely misguided.
The suits featured cost between £595 and £750 a throw. Most men would be reluctant to part with them simply so that they might race off to Henry Street or into the second hand shop to make a nice little earner. Or just think how much they could get for them in Oxfam.
Perhaps Robert O'Byrne might be more sensitive to this if he'd remove those designer labels that are obscuring his view of the real world. I know it sounds terribly common (or, worse still, rough), but in featuring such expensive ("working"!!) clothes, whom precisely does The Irish Times think it is trying to (ad)dress? Yours, etc.,
