Sir, - As a former sailor and occasional fisherman, I deeply lament the passing of the professional Met Eireann weather forecasters from RTE1 and their replacement with scripted presenters.
The professionalism of the Met Eireann forecasters and their obvious understanding of weather systems was a key differentiator for RTE1 and the change to a superficial, if slick, presentation is a serious downgrading of a very important service.
Please, RTE: bring back Evelyn, Gerald and Joan for at least one comprehensive, live and up-to-date professional weather forecast each evening. - Yours, etc., Liam O'Riordan,
