Sir, - Mr Joseph Mathews, in dismissing Mary Cummins's pessimistic views of human nature, refers to his own experiences of 25 years at the Bar during which he had seen the effects of murder, rape, unemployment, etc., and yet he had seen courage, humanity and "even laughter at the coalface of human tragedy".
