Madam, - Steven C. ffeary Smyrl (April 27th) suggests that the statue of Queen Victoria should be brought back from Australia to rejoin that of Prince Albert on Leinster Lawn. I believe it would be a more kindly gesture to get Prince Albert out from behind the bushes on Leinster Lawn (as described by your correspondent) and send him off to take his proper place beside Queen Victoria down under.

I do not know whether the Australians bought Queen Victoria's statue from us, when it was found to be surplus to our requirements, but we should certainly let them have Prince Albert for nothing. - Yours, etc,
