Sir, – As a chartered engineer, I share the frustration felt by Liam Madden (September 10th) at the lack of awareness of what a career in engineering can offer.
The Irish public also seems, in general, to be unaware that Ireland is a founding member of the European Space Agency. Indeed, Ireland’s nascent space industry offers myriad opportunities to graduate engineers to work on problems including developing electronic components for satellites, manufacturing mechanical structures for rockets, and designing medical diagnostics equipment for the International Space Station. – Yours, etc,
