Up to 90: Ireland’s favourite phrases

Sir, – I too enjoyed Una Mullally’s “Up to 90:Ireland in our favourite words and phrases” (Magazine, July 29th). However, there was a glaring omission.

We all know the word “fooster” – to waste time by fussing, or by causing deliberate confusion. Sometimes, when having a pint with a particularly tight friend, I find myself paying his round such is his level of pocket-searching, fuss and confusion. Os such occasions I am successfully “outfoostered”. – Yours, etc,

FRANK WALSH,
