Madam, - So Dublin City Council and Conor Faughnan of the AA are surprised that there are 11,000 fewer cars going into Dublin city at rush hour, that is between 7am and 10am. Do they not realise that commuting starts at 6am and earlier? It is 6.35am and I am sitting in traffic along the quays.

The city centre is buzzing with convenience stores and coffee shops open to help bleary-eyed commuters ease into their day's work. Heaven help us if this survey informs our transport planners! And, of course, there is no survey at all on how we all get home in the evening. - Yours, etc,
