Madam, - First we had the killing of grey seals off the Kerry coast because they were condemned for taking too many salmon from legal and illegal salmon nets.

Now our respect for our wildlife has reached a new low in Kerry with the picture of Cllr Michael Healy-Rae in camouflage gear with rifle at the ready. Ready for what? To shoot defenceless deer, because drivers on the Kilgarvan road are travelling too fast to control their vehicles when deer are crossing.

The IFA want Kerry's deer eradicated because they compete with sheep for the grass; it has nothing to do with road safety. In fact, all sheep should be culled within the Killarney National Park as they compete with the deer for grass and force the deer outside the park. - Yours, etc.,
