Sir, - I attended the play Viper's Opium at Andrew's Lane Theatre on October 11th. From the description in the Dublin Theatre Festival brochure, I expected an interesting play which would not cause any offence. However the audience was treated to an hour-and-a-half of utter drivel. The play had a very strong sexual content laced with strong and offensive language. Indeed, the initial 15 minutes of the play featured quite a lot of male nudity. There was also a simulated sex scene. None of this material was indicated on the festival brochure. I would suggest to the festival organisers that, in future, suitable warnings on the content of certain plays be published in the brochure. - Yours, etc., Michael J. Connelly,
