Sir, — Was it really necessary to cover the top of your front page on Tuesday with a picture advertisement intended to illustrate bondage? Worse, you publish a poorly written tease-type tabloid style story inside your newspaper?

I have no problems with what consenting adults do in private and I know you have to sell newspapers. However, joining the race to the bottom is not the way to treat readers of The Irish Times.

That it should happen in a week that the telephone hacking scandal is reaching a crescendo is all the more unfortunate. Poor judgment. – Yours, etc.,
