Madam, - I feel compelled to write in defence of St Teresa of Avila, one of the great Catholic Christian mystics.
I have noticed in perusing both English and, regrettably, Irish newspapers, that it is becoming increasingly commonplace to have a snipe at the Catholic Church. Unfortunately this has also crept into The Irish Times. Just and constructive criticism is one thing, but what Kevin Myers indulged in in his attack on St Teresa was completely below the belt, to say the least (An Irishman's Diary, October 6th).
I have said a prayer for Kevin; may God forgive him. - Yours, etc.,
