Sir, - I am disappointed by recent remarks from AA Roadwatch spokespersons, castigating motorists for their general behaviour on the roads. For years the AA has tut-tutted on the fence, masquerading as a representative of the motoring public, its paltry membership a testimony to failure.
Yet there is an enormous business opportunity for someone with vision and drive to truly represent the combined interests of motorists. Few automobile owners would begrudge paying a few pounds to an organisation that would lobby effectively on behalf of its members.
Anyone travelling to Ireland will be in no doubt as to the ineptness of local authorities to direct motorists to their destination. The need for an independent private motoring authority to take responsibility and direct all aspects of motoring is overwhelming. Is there some innovative person out there willing to give it a lash? - Yours, etc., Dan Costello,
