Shaking On A Deal

Sir, - Dublin Corporation never ceases to amaze

Sir, - Dublin Corporation never ceases to amaze. As a committed environmentalist, I was intrigued to notice the advent on our city's streets of advertising/ recycling wedge-shaped structures, which at the blunt end have two holes, one for bottles (colour of glass not specified) and one for cans (no preference for steel or aluminium stated).

Noting the height of the bottle hole I placed my hand and arm into it, reaching downwards, and instinctively placed my right hand and arm into the hole for cans, reaching upward. Imagine my delight when I was able to effect my own personal secret handshake in public without detection.

What this means is that whatever revenue the Corporation obtains from the advertising can now be spent on separating the bottles and cans - unless, of course, it would prefer to spend their time in practising the kind of secret handshake that closed this private deal (with public assets). - Yours, etc., J. Hennessy,
