Science needs new formula

Madam, – I read with interest the article “New formula needed for science” (Education Today, May 12th)

Madam, – I read with interest the article “New formula needed for science” (Education Today, May 12th). It is encouraging to see the need for science, engineering and technology being highlighted.

However, the statement that “Science has got to be introduced in primary school” is puzzling. The Department of Education and Science published a revised syllabus for Science in Primary Schools in 1999. The formal implementation of this science curriculum commenced in September 2003.

Perhaps there needs to be a greater awareness among the public about the science that is currently being taught in primary schools. – Yours, etc,
