Sir, - It is quite simple: ordinary people who are working cannot afford to buy a home! Those in lower income brackets can obtain free housing which can then be purchased at very low rates and sold, while those in the higher income brackets can afford the unreasonable prices. People in the middle, however, are hit hardest - in tax, in health, and now in their inability to purchase their own homes.

As if this wasn't enough we have to listen to the political wrangling and amnesia which has been all too evident in recent times, and to the large profits being declared annually by the ever-so-friendly financial institutions. Is there any justice, or is it the unstated reality that the "backhander" is king, at the expense of the ordinary PAYE worker? - Yours, etc., Anthony J. Hutchinson,
