Sir, - A friend has his rent in his bedsit increased from £55 per week to £65. Since he is claiming rent allowance, he will receive £10 more now, which is going straight to the landlord. So the Government is paying for the greed of the landlord.
In some countries in Europe there exists a points system to roughly measure a fair rent. And rent can only be increased by three per cent yearly. Why is nobody in the Government looking after the interests of the low-income (and not-so-low-income) groups who can't afford the rent anymore? - Yours, etc.,
Jorinde Rolsma, Patrick Street, Dublin 8.
