Madam, – Recently I received 11 leaflets in the one post. Each one was from an aspiring senator, calling for electoral support. Every leaflet was addressed to my niece and to myself, although my niece ceased living with me many years ago. She was addressed as Miss, while I was addressed as Mr Ross, despite being a woman. BA was written immediately after my name, though my formal education ended when I left school. My niece has a degree, but no such qualification was added after her name. Add to all this, my house number was incorrect.
I gather these candidates seek to represent a certain university. Efficiency should come from the top and filter down.
I had intended to support the continuation of the Seanad, should there be a referendum at some future date, to decide whether it should be retained or abolished.
