Madam, – Why does ISME (Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association) want further cuts in public sector pay (Home News, October 30th)? How would its members benefit? Would its position improve if some of its members’ customers (public servants) had less money and scaled back on their spending? Does it expect further public sector pay cuts would save it from tax increases? Does it hope it will be able to access some of the taxpayers’ money “freed up” by such cuts? One thing for sure is its campaign (latest round, State told to get a grip on public sector pay, Irish Times October 30th) is designed to yield some benefit to ISME members.

The strangest thing is the media, who give it voice, never question it on its motives. – Yours, etc,
