Sir, - I was very interested to see the call widely reported today from the Dublin City Centre Business Association for an upgrading of O'Connell Street. I heartedly support this but am surprised that no mention appears to have been made of Parnell Street. In particular the stretch of Parnell Street from O'Connell Street to Gardiner Street is a classic example of neglect, dereliction and urban blight caused by the Corporation's now abandoned motor way plans. This is despite the fact of the heroic efforts of some small businesses in the area to revitalise the street.
May I suggest that Parnell Street should be urgently included in any scheme for the refurbishment of the area and that it should be given special incentives status. To have such an area of blight adjacent to the capital city's main thoroughfare and directly on the road to the airport is a reproach to us all. Yours, etc.,
