NIALL O'DONOGHUE,
Sir, - All the countries on the periphery of Europe, except Ireland, have done something inventive and useful with what nature has bestowed upon them.
Instead of complaining about the North Sea winds, the Danes got down to business and were among the first to install wind farms. Instead of complaining about all the steam coming out of the ground, the Icelanders put their heads together and were among the first to harness geothermal springs for clean and cheap energy.
Similarly, the Norwegians and the Finns have been inventive with the elements of nature, whether it be earth, wind, fire or water.
So, can the Irish once and for all stop complaining and come up with something inventive and practical to do with all the rain? - Yours, etc.,
NIALL O'DONOGHUE,
Narva,
Finland.
