Myers On BMW Drivers

Sir, - The world is made up of a diverse range of people, among them Bicyclists, Motorists, Walkers (BMWs). Some of them are very nice people, and some of them not so nice. Some are brave, magnanimous, wise, and some are not. But it would be boorish, moronic, wicked of me to generalise about them.

It would be bombastic, mischievous, wrong of me to say that all journalists write rubbish, save for some who may "exist in corners of the planet I have not yet visited" to quote a phrase from an Irish journalist. And God forbid, it would be appallingly brazen, monstrous, wretched of me to say such of all the Irish Times journalists. To do so, should, to quote a phrase from an Irish journalist, "normally be considered evidence of a personality disorder so great as to disqualify from having a [driving] licence".

Even among TV Quiz Show hosts, for programmes such as Challenging Times or University Challenge, there will be some who are bashful, modest, winsome or even brilliant, marvellous, warm.

But it would be terribly improper of me to make generalisations about them all, on foot of what I see, read or hear of one of them.
