Sir, - I presume the name of the Abbey Theatre has its roots in the great medieval Cistercian Abbey of St Mary's, founded in 1139. This abbey was located on the north side of the Liffey. Would it be right, therefore, for the Abbey Theatre to retain the name if it crossed the river?
Perhaps our National Theatre should take on a new name on the south side, one associated with its new location. How about the Gasworks Theatre? - Yours, etc.
