Madam, – The Tánaiste’s changes to the work permit system due to come into effect on June 1st will make things worse for both migrant workers and the Irish workers whom the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan seems to be trying to protect.

It will force migrant workers who already have settled in Ireland into undocumented working, and push them into the shadows.

This won’t create jobs for Irish workers, but it will encourage exploitation and undermine overall conditions for other workers, not to mention causing a loss in tax revenue.

Integration is something the Government likes to pay lip service to, but how can there be integration when one group does not have an equal opportunity and when all the signs point to creating a hidden, second class? – Yours, etc,
