Sir, - I refer to Kathryn Connolly's letter (May 20th) on the need for extra litter bins.
On a recent visit to the US, we stopped for refreshments at a shopping centre off the main highway. There appeared to be no litter bins either in the car park or shopping mall areas to leave the small amount of litter that I was carrying and, as a good citizen, I went to the manager of the centre to ask how people could be expected to be litter-conscious if no bins were provided.
