Sir, - Apropos the letter sent from the Tibet Support Group to your paper (June 3rd), which described gross violations of the people of Tibet, it is disturbing to know that the US has recently signed an agreement which allows China entry to the World Trade Organisation, enabling it to have free trade. What is even more disturbing is that the WTO is an organisation of the United Nations, which was itself established in the wake of the atrocities of the second World War.

Now we see the UN vicariously supporting a nation with one of the worst records of human rights violations in the world. I can't help wondering if bodies such as the UN Commission for Human Rights are just a cynical veneer created by what seems to be a politics-infected United Nations. - Yours, etc.
