Sir - The Mount Jerome Historical Project was launched in June 1996 by The Mount Jerome Heritage Group in conjunction with the cemetery owners, FAS, Dublin Corporation, the Probation and Welfare Services and members of the local clergy. They have long recognised the need for a radical restoration plan to improve the condition of Mount Jerome Cemetery and to develop it as an important heritage site. It is a worthwhile project which should help to further develop the local economy and attract tourists and interested groups. The recent launch of our publication Mount Jerome - A Victorian Cemetery is positive proof of our commitment to this policy.
As a result of growing numbers of requests, the Historical Project is currently undertaking research into the local history of Harold's Cross. I should be delighted to hear from readers with information, photographs or documents concerning any social, economic or historical aspects of life in the Harold's Cross area which may assist us in our work. We plan to stage an exhibition of this work within the next year. I may be contacted at 4971526. - Yours, etc.,
