Madam, - Thank you for your excellent Health Supplement each week.
Last Tuesday's issue (February 6th) is particularly outstanding, with Maurice Neligan's down-to-earth common sense about hospital bed shortages, Muiris Houston's reminder of the wonders of ongoing discoveries in medical science and technology, and the wisdom of Tony Bates's reflections on mental health in ordinary living.
It is good to be reminded that psychotherapies and a host of spiritual movements encourage self-awareness as though it were a joy that we've been missing out on and something we should get into as soon as possible. It helps us to remember what is most important to us and to stay connected to what we love, as we take each day as it comes and live it to the full.
A particularly high point is Darragh O'Keeffe's quite factual and very moving description of his mother's battle with depression and her tragic suicide. It highlights the sheer mystery of suicide, and deserves to be read, re-read and discussed by as many people as possible.
In spite of all the doctors and all the drugs, her suicide is still a mystery. What can we learn from it? - Yours, etc,
