Sir, What on earth is the matter with the Green Party? First, Patricia McKenna tries to scupper the Divorce Referendum. Then the Greens line up with Sinn Fein at the Forum to oppose the democratic consensus on consent. Finally, in last Saturday's Irish Times (February 3rd) a letter from Paul O'Brien, the Greens' spokesperson, attacks the increase in child benefit in the Budget because "it may make it more attractive for poor people to have large families". There is more than a hint of eugenics in that statement.
