Sir, - The Irish Times carried a letter from M. T. Collins (November 20th) giving examples of English words translated into Irish by giving them a peculiar spelling: gale becomes "gala", and docks "docanna". May I add to the list? Airport, public telephone, ramp, stamp, post office, and nitrogen strangely become aerphort, telefon publi, rampai, stampat, ifig an phoist, and nitrigin! - Yours, etc.,

Kiltennel,

Gorey,

Co Wexford.
