Sir, - Surely Father Joe McVeigh (June 1st) must be aware, as a man of the cloth, of the inclusivity of the Union Jack, as well the Tricolour. The inclusive flags of the patron saints of Ireland, Scotland and Englandshould be allowed to be recognised as a symbol of peaceful self-respect, just as the white between the orange and the green should be allowed to symbolise peace.
However, as long as there are tormented individuals who wish to abuse or denigrate either flag, we would be best served by listening to the advice of the wise poet Louis MacNeice: "The tide flows round the children's sandy fancy.
