Madam, - If there is only a "feeble" implementation of the provisions of the 2006 Criminal Justice Act which increased the penalties for illegal use of fireworks, as Cllr Mary Mitchell O'Connor laments (November 2nd), she should be berating her leader, Minister for Justice Michael McDowell.

Madam, - As a founding member of Macnas and father of a three-year-old, I was sad to read two articles in Tuesday's Health Supplement that portrayed Halloween negatively and as dangerous. We, and our children, need the sort of experiences that Halloween can give - to be scared in a "controlled" way, to allow the imagination to look into the darker areas of life, and to have the excitement of collectively exploring this.
