Madam, - I wish to congratulate Frank Nugent of the Mountaineering Council of Ireland on his well-balanced approach to this problem in contrast to other correspondents.

This is a matter of consultation, rather than confrontation.

In Wicklow, through the Wicklow Uplands Council we have managed to achieve consensus on the various problems arising between the many bodies using the uplands.

This is the way forward for the future, which will allow all the interested parties to discuss and agree on the best way to deal with any problems that may arise from time to time. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - The "farmers and hill walkers" debate has re-opened yet again, with many contrasting views being expressed. Unfortunately, the Government remains silent. Surely it is now time for at least one of the relevant Ministers to try to resolve this most pressing issue. It will not go away. - Yours, etc.,
