Sir, - Neither the Dublin Transport Initiative report nor the recent draft master plan for the docklands area appears to offer any prospect of relief from one aspect of traffic congestion on the streets of the inner northside city. This is the constant flow of empty buses and coaches travelling between Busaras and Broadstone Garage, clogging important thoroughfares and involving time-consuming, non-revenue-earning journeys for Bus Eireann vehicles and personnel.
If it is intended to continue using the elegant, but ever more cramped Busaras as the terminus for provincial bus services, redundant railway-owned land in the North Wall Quay area should be used for a modern, purpose-built bus garage. More convenient premises closer to Busaras could only enhance Bus Eireann operations in the capital - in addition to assisting traffic flows elsewhere.
Even if CIE had no further use for the historic former Broadstone Station there would be little difficulty in disposing of the site, though my own preference is for it to become the National Transport Museum! - Yours, etc.,
Sidmonton Road, Bray, Co Wicklow.
