Sir, - Mr Noel Dempsey's new Electoral Bill will ensure that TDs of superior intellect and ability will not be forced to deal with trivial "humdrum" issues which concern their constituents. These super-TDs will work on the bigger issues of running the country, and managing government policy in the direction which they want. Perish the thought that the views of the little people should have any bearing on how our country evolves in the early 21st century.

Mr Dempsey is clearly one such super-TD. Why should he have to deal with issues concerning his Meath constituents? And if his new Bill is passed, he can simply forget about the little people of Meath, safe in the knowledge that his seat is safe.

Let's all support the new Bill and then the truly great politicians of our time can continue the great work which takes place in the ivory towers of Leinster House. They can move and groove with the shakers and rollers, be seen only with the beautiful people, live the life of the truly brilliant and privileged people which they are. We, the common people, may even be graced with the odd visit, most likely at election time. - Yours, etc., Ronan Rooney,
