Sir, - The proposal that the narrow linear areas fronting the Liffey ("campshires") should be built upon is appalling (Irish Times, March 20th). Such a step, if implemented, would destroy the city's open aspect and relationship to the river.
This, a unique feature in its time and a legacy of the great Viceroy Ormonde, has survived over three centuries. Are we to witness a Millennium in which Anna Livia is hidden from view as if it was one great sewer? Voices on this should now be heard. - Yours, etc.,
