Madam, - The report in the Motoring Supplement (May 11th) that a driving tester refused to use a car, provided by an applicant, for a driving test because of "a lingering smell of cigarettes" should be of interest to all employers and employees.

On the basis of the media report, it does appear that this tester was within his rights under current legislation, as he is now entitled to a place of work which is free of the threat of smoking- related cancer-causing carcinogens. - Yours, etc,

VALERIE COGHLAN, ASH Ireland, Northumberland Road, Dublin.
