Madam, - Alan Gallagher (April 9th) gives an accurate account of drug misuse and its consequences in areas of the north inner city. However, terms as "junkie" are unhelfpul, stigmatising and ultimately dehumanising.
This is not a plea for shallow political correctness, merely an acknowledgement of the humanity of individuals entangled with addiction. It is easier to ignore and dismiss a "junkie" than a person who needs help to overcome substance abuse. - Yours, etc,
